The Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture features permanent and special exhibits that highlight the living cultures of Northwest Native peoples. Our current special exhibit, Work in Progress, offers a preview of the New Burke, a flagship museum of natural history and culture for Washington state opening in 2019. Unlike other museums, where the public is on one side of the wall and collections and research are on the other, the New Burke will invite you to see and be part of discoveries as they happen. See the behind-the-scenes work of getting ready for the New Burke—like packing fragile artifacts for the move to the new building—and get a sneak peek of objects coming out of storage for display in the new museum.
Check the Burke's online calendar of events for special opportunities to see Native art demonstrations and meet Native artists in the Work in Progress gallery.
