Deconstructing Curtis: Romanticism vs. Reality
Suquamish Museum
Edward Curtis’s famous photographs of Native Americans from the early 1900’s are both beautiful and sentimental in their portrayal of what was considered, at the time, to be a “vanishing race” of people. We will examine the stories behind the photographs, juxtaposing Curtis’s posed images with historical photos from the same era, in a search for the truth.
